Former Mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes Brian Campbell has just been re-elected to The Palos Verdes Library Board of Trustees. As a publicly funded entity, the Library District holds elections amongst the four cities that make up the special district every four years to elect the 5-member board. Prior to being termed out of office in Rancho Palos Verdes, Brian served for eight years on that city council and during that time was additionally elected twice to the vice-mayor position and once as mayor.
Brian is a former US Army (Airborne) Officer who was commissioned upon graduation through CU’s ROTC program. Brian has been active in the California State Guard for a number of years and was recently promoted to Deputy Commander of the California State Guard Special Operations Detachment.
After graduating CU in 1977, Brian served on active duty in the US Army for two years and 13 additional years in the reserves. His duty stations included a tour in South Korea where he was a member of the unit directly adjacent to the Demilitarized Zone and commanded a platoon of soldiers who regularly conducted interdiction patrols inside the DMZ. Additionally, as a reservist he served with a number of units including the 82nd Airborne Division and graduated from several specialized airborne schools such as the Pathfinder and Jumpmaster courses.
Brian traveled in September 2018 to Afghanistan where he was invited to speak in Kabul at the American University of Afghanistan to students interested in US foreign policy, the upcoming Afghan parliamentary elections and the American political system.
